Trepidation
Egg Tempera POEM
TREPIDATION
Children move cautiously
Particularly if Black
Under the guarded eyes
Of those sworn to protect
Against the unseen
Lurking below the surface
Like a water’s calm
Overhead ominous clouds
Prelude to a storm
Not forecasted
But anticipated
In ways well known
By those on guard
Trepidation is by default
